Tacky the Penguin

"Tacky was an odd bird". This is the premise for all of the Tacky the Penguin books. His friends are named Goodly, Lovely, Angel, Neatly and Perfect. They are all courteous, well-dressed, good singers, march in line, and so forth. Tacky on the other hand wears a mismatched flower shirt and plaid bow tie. He falls down, trips, sings off key, and does many more "odd" things.

But in his own way, Tacky is funny and original. His antics actually come in handy when hunters come along looking for penguins, or when all of the contestants in the Penguin Cheering Contest in Three Cheers for Tacky do the same boring cheers, Tacky amuses them all.

"Goodly, Lovely, Angel, Neatly, and Perfect always sang pretty songs like 'Sunrise on the Iceberg.' Tacky always sang songs like 'How Many Toes Does a Fish Have?'"

Here is a list of Tacky the Penguin books by Helen Lester, illustrated by Lynn Munsinger:

Tacky the Penguin
Three Cheers for Tacky
Tacky in Trouble
Tacky and the Winter Games
Tacky Goes to Camp
Tackylocks and the Three Bears
Tacky and the Emperor
Tacky's Christmas

Not only are these books sure to get a giggle from your child, but they can help teach a valuable lesson that everyone has something to offer even if he or she is different from you.
