Life on a Farm

I would consider Farm by Elisha Cooper a teaching resource picture book for children ages 4-8. It is thorough, interesting, educational, and the descriptive language coupled with the illustrations really bring out your senses when reading this book.

Cooper takes the reader through life on the farm during all four seasons introducing the family, farm animals, and equipment. While reading this, I had the feeling of being a little romanticised into wishing I lived on a farm.

"Wagons and trucks drive to the silos and dump corn into the pit. The corn shoots thorugh the auger into the silo. Kernels rattle against the silo's metal sides like someone typing very loud and very fast. The silos fill up. Corn is everywhere. Drifting across the silos, spilling out of the wagons, and scattering around the barnyard. The boy helps the farmer shovel it up."

Particularly, I think this would be a great book to read during a farm-themed lesson. Visit a local farm and farmer's market, and study some typical farm animals.
