The Best Book of Fossils, Rocks and Minerals

The Best Book of Fossils, Rocks and Minerals by Chris Pellant (Kingfisher-Houghton Mifflin).

This is kind of like a mini-textbook which reviews the basics of our planet, minerals and crystals, precious gemstones, fossils, fossil fuels, meteorites and more.

"Throughout history, people have dug up minerals and rocks from the ground and used them to make everyday objects. The discovery of metals and other raw materials changed the way people lived. Valuable metals, called ores, were found in rocks. Many items can be made by using mixtures of metals, or alloys."

The version of this book that I reviewed is a thin, small paperback picture book. You cannot get that from looking at the front cover in this post. So if you are looking for a short, concise and factual book on this subject, this is probably a good fit.
