Galaxies, Galaxies

"Galaxies, Galaxies" by Gail Gibbons

In this picture book about our solar system, you will find something different from many of the other picture books out there which is information about other galaxies in our universe. There are five shapes of galaxies: There is spiral, lenticular, barred spiral, irregular, and elliptical galaxies.

In our galaxy, there are famous "arms" like Perseus, Orion, and Centaurus that spiral from the center and are made up of stars, gases and other materials. And did you know that stars are actually different colors which scientist use to identify their age. For example, yellow and orange stars are the coolest stars and also the oldest.

Be sure to include this in your science study because it is really fascinating and Gail Gibbons always does a great job with providing facts and diagrams in an easy-to-understand way for young children.
