The Planets

"The Planets" by Gail Gibbons, 1993

Learn things about each one of the planets in this picture book.

"Mercury is the second smallest planet of the nine planets and is made up of rock and metal. One year on Mercury is only 88 Earth days. That's how long it takes for Mercury to orbit the sun. Mercury rotates very slowly, so its days are very long. A day on Mercury is 59 Earth days."

Now, I included the year on this one because this book does include Pluto as a planet. Nonetheless, it is still a great resource and can prompt a discussion about the change in Pluto's planet status.

Overall, this is a great introductory book about each planet. It also gives additional facts such as the word "planets" comes from a Greek word for "wanderer".
