Me on the Map

"Me on the Map" by Joan Sweeney is a picture book told in the first-person by a young girl who explains her place in this world geographically.

"So here's how I find my special place on the map. First I look at the map of the world and find my country. Then I look at the map of my country and find my state. Then I look at the map of my state and find my town."

The girl goes on to explain her street, her home and her bedroom! I love this geography resource book because it makes geography fun, makes it personal for each reader who will no-doubt be thinking about his/her own place on the map, and it encourages a sense of positive self-worth.

This picture book is best for elementary-age children.
