On Market Street

"On Market Street" by Arnold Lobel, illustrated by Anita Lobel, is a 1982 Caldecott Honor picture book.

This beloved book takes the reader through a child's stroll down Market Street. Each merchant the child encounters is dressed or decorated with the items he or she is selling. The book's popularity is due to the creativity and detailed illustrations that invite children to use their imaginations.

Some of the things the child encounters are apples, books, clocks, doughnuts, eggs, and flowers. They only words in the book are those given for each letter of the alphabet. The illustrations explain all of the rest.

Expose your children to beautiful art, examples of goods sold in markets, and of course, the alphabet!

Read this book and then visit your local farmer's market!
